BuildingLink Phone-Broadcast System

Part of the company's recently released Integrated Platform 2.0 version of its namesake management software, the EPMBS is a telecom technology designed to make 50 calls a minute to all building residents with listed telephone and cell-phone numbers.

It had it baptism of fire — or, well, baptism of rain — on November 27, 2007, when a heavy downpour overflowed the city's sewer system and flooded the subbasement of 90 West Street in Manhattan. Water knocked out most of the building's utilities — and this emergency system phoned evacuation directives to 575 residents within 20 minutes, the company says. Of course, the company's press release also says, "That was simply brilliant," but you know what proud parents are like.

The EPMBS also lets you create customized lists, so you could, for example, notify only residents of the "D" and "E" lines of a water shut down. It also tracks call-progress and status, so that you can see who's been contacted.
