HOW NYC CO-OPS/CONDOS SAVE ENERGY

Virtual Town Hall to Help Co-ops and Condos Comply With Local Law 97

New York City

Virtual town hall meeting, Local Law 97, building carbon emissions, co-op and condo boards.
Dec. 5, 2022

State Senator Liz Krueger and Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine will host a virtual town hall meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. to lay out technical and financial resources available to co-op and condo boards as they strive to cut their buildings' carbon emissions enough to comply with Local Law 97.

The law, part of the city's ambitious Climate Mobilization Act, sets limits on carbon emissions from buildings larger than 25,000 square feet. Beginning in 2024, buildings that fail to meet their emission caps will face stiff fines. The caps become even more stringent in 2030.

Joining the legislators at the town hall are Gina Bocra, the chief sustainability officer with the city's Department of Buildings, and Simon Mugo of the NYC Accelerator, which offers free advice to co-op and condo boards on how to implement and pay for various energy-efficiency initiatives. Bocra and Mugo will explain Local Law 97'e implementation timeline, and they'll offer specific steps boards can take to reduce their buildings' emissions. A question-and-answer session will follow their presentations.

You can join the event through Zoom, a webinar hosting service. It's also possible to view the event through Facebook (no Facebook account required), or to listen in via telephone.
