Surtec Graffiti Buster VOC

April 29, 2010 — Seeing as how there's a new anti-graffiti law in New York City, and, well, graffiti everywhere — and we mean you, too, Nova Scotia and Addis Ababa! — we thought it apropos to spotlight an anti-graffiti new product for your co-op or condo.

What's so special about this one? The Graffiti Buster VOC ink and spray-paint remover, from the California company Surtec, meets that state's Air Resources Board regulations for volatile organic compounds by containing less than 30% VOC by weight. So, it's environmentally conscious. Plus, according to the company's technical-specifications sheet, its odor is listed as "sweet." Sweet? Sweet!

The Graffiti Buster VOC, model GB-290, was developed to remove all types of graffiti material, including ink, spray paint, lipstick and felt marking pens, from surfaces including cement, brick, marble, granite and baked enamel. Shipped ready-to-use, requiring no mixing or diluting, you can spray or brush it onto graffiti-marked walls and floors, and after waiting one to ten minutes, depending on the type of graffiti to be removed, you just wipe off the offending art. Or, actually, in the most cases, "art." (If you're the proud owner of a Banksy piece, of course, you already know not to remove it.)

One gallon covers 200 to 400 square feet on average, the company says, depending on porosity of surface and the amount and type of graffiti. It comes in five-gallon pails, 55-gallon drums, and as a case of six one-gallon cans.

Oh, as for the new law? You can read it about here.
