Window Washing System

Last week, we had the company Roll-a-Ramp with a product called ... the Roll-a-Ramp. This week, we have a product called the Window Washing System from a company called ... Window Washing System! OK, not the most original names. But the product is a real original — and so new we're not even sure it's available yet. But it just seems so neat, we had to share.
Independent Canadian inventor Stephane Dube — a building superintendent for eight years before going the "Eureka!" route — has snagged U.S. patent #6,986,186 for an automated, motor-driven system, operated by remote control from indoors, that removes the need for scaffold-based crews or cordoning off your street. Per his patent, the device is "mounted in a dwelling wall [and] includes a window squeegee assembly that is attached to the outer surface. … A driving assembly is mechanically coupled to the pair of supports for selectively moving the blade upwardly or downwardly, [and there is a] dispenser for selectively dispensing liquid on the window."
The blogosphere buzz is mixed. One commenter claims that "anything other than pure water will just leave streaks and water spots." (Um, ever hear of Windex, dude?) As for the squeegee, "what type of rubber is it? Is it cleaned and wiped after each pass, or does it have dirt that will scratch that glass?" There are questions. Yet while the system may have a few bugs, so might your windows. And like your windows, this just might be something to look into.
