Habitat Publisher Named One of the Top Women in Media

Carol Ott, publisher and editor-in-chief of Habitat magazine, has been selected by Folio: Magazine as one of the Top Women in Media, an annual listing of “the most influential women in media, the ones driving the agenda for our industry and in their companies,” the media magazine has announced. Ott, who founded Habitat in 1982, is being honored in the Entrepreneurs category.

“I think it’s fabulous to have started an enterprise that’s lasted 35 years in an environment that’s slaying a lot of the big guys,” Ott says. “We were in the right place at the right time, and we’ve stayed true to real journalism. The only thing you hear today is digital, digital, digital – but having a strong print magazine that people respond to, that’s wonderful. I’m very proud.”

Other award categories include Corporate Visionaries, Director-Level Doers, Industry Leadership, Mentors, and Rising Stars. Among Ott’s fellow honorees are: Lucy Kaylin, editor-in-chief of Hearst’s O, the Oprah Magazine; Jacklyn Monk, executive editor of Time Inc.’s Essence and InStyle; and Alison Overholt, editor-in-chief of ESPN.
