Rand Engineering & Architecture prepared the construction documents and provided construction administration for the new system, which entailed the installation of a new vacuum pump system, boiler feed tank and pumps, and an intermediate condensate receiver. Rand’s design featured a condensate cooler (heat exchanger) to reduce the temperature of the returning condensate, which protects the new vacuum pump from heat damage. That energy is then used to provide supplemental heat to the lobby. All associated piping and electrical circuits were included to connect the new equipment to the building’s existing services. CC Controlled Combustion Co. was the contractor. Rand’s Jon Colatrella was the project engineer. Barbara Berrisford of Charles H. Greenthal Management oversaw the $56,000 project, which began in May and was completed in August.
