CAP Index Crime Forecasting
We're writing this on Halloween, but you know what'll still be scary well into November? Workplace violence. Fraud and embezzlement. Data theft. CRISIS AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT!!! Oh, we're just a wreck, we tell you. Lucky for us there are companies that study just these sort of things — and issue reports about them!
The double-decade-old Exton, Penn., firm CAP Index is one of them. Not a new product / service / company, it's nonetheless representative of, for most of us, a new concept: crime forecasting — information and advice to help minimize, in the company's words, "a broad range of losses, including shortage, general liability, fraud, lawsuits and crimes against persons and property." And if awful things happens anyway? Well, then the company has "loss mitigation solutions." We never even knew there was a phrase for that.
CAP can also help with litigation defense by providing data that can form the basis of objective policies and procedures that are defensible in court. Granted, it may be only the biggest co-ops and condos that may need this type of heavy-duty crime/security consulting. But we've got some pretty big, multi-building complexes out there, and even smaller buildings might find CAP's reports useful. Now our only question is: What exactly does "CAP" stand for?
