General Pipe Cleaners Water Ram

OK, so it's basically a bicycle pump on steroids. But what works, works — it's both a lot easier on your plumbing than many chemical drain cleaners, and heaven knows it's less messy and icky than a drain snake (although we did have that really cool, high-tech automatic drain-snake machine a few weeks back). The company says 98 percent of the force is forwarded against the obstruction, with only two percent of the impact hitting the pipe sidewalls. Suitable for sinks, toilets, bathtubs, wash basins, floor drains, fountains, urinals, toilets, wash basins and pipes up to six inches diameter, and will power around pipe bends and curves.

The device comes in four models, ranging from $253.75 to $426.60: the KR-A Water Ram Economy, the KR-A-WC Water Ram Standard, the KR-C-WC Water Ram Standard With Toilet Attachment and the KR-D-WC Water Ram Deluxe (at left). It's designed to last — a relatively simple machine, there's virtually nothing on it that can wear out without being simply replaced. It comes with a one-year warranty against defect or breakage.
